I wrote and illustrated a little story for my cousin's birthday and I'd like to get it printed. The iPhoto books are very reasonably priced (I'm not even sure where else in New Zealand I'd be able to order a pre-bound book, actually).
However, I've noticed that a lot of photo printing places will balk at anything illustrated because they assume you don't own the copyright. The Terms & Conditions for iPhoto do not mention this, it just mentions porn (duh) and that they can refuse to print anything if they want to (standard legalese).
Has anyone tried to order an iPhoto product using images that aren't photos? Did it work?

discuss!
50. Oldboy (2003) saw it, enjoyed the hell out of it. (mostly the hammer sequence)
49. Gerry (2002) never saw it, sounds (intentionally) boring.
48. Crimson Gold (2003) never saw it…
47. Moulin Rouge! (2001) never saw it, didn’t care for the other luhrman film I’ve seen (romeo & Juliet), so I’m in no hurry to see this one. The whole adaptation of contemporary songs thing seems too twee for my tastes.
46. Adaptation (2002) never saw it. Wanted to when it came out (thanks to jones’ previous film, being john malkovich), but never got around to it. The more I read about it, the more interesting it sounds.
45. Audition (2001) saw it. Fucking creepy.
44. 4 Months, 3 Weeks And 2 Days (2007) never saw it. No idea what it is.
43. Brokeback Mountain (2005) never saw it, but I like all the leads. Might check it eventually. Its one I’d watch on TNT or whatever, I guess.
42. L’Enfant (2005) never saw it.
41. The Dark Knight (2008) this should be higher than 41. a LOT higher. Perfect comic book movie.
40. City Of God (2002) never saw it, but it sounds a bit like streets of cite soleil, which is an excellent quasi-documentary.
39. The Prestige (2006) loved it. Jackman and bale are fantastic, plus motherfucking bowie as tesla. Why people prefer the ed Norton one is beyond me.
38. Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter… And Spring (2003) never saw it. (who only sees American movies? Me.)
37. A History Of Violence (2005) I love this movie. The opening shot with the slow pan on a rural motel just reminds me of Wisconsin, with the cicadas and tall grass. I was hooked from that shot on. And john hurt is hilarious.
36. Pan’s Labyrinth (2006) yes and yes. I saw devil’s backbone recently, and the two are remarkable similar movies, but pan’s just…fleshes out the details a bit better, I suppose.
35. Waking Life (2001) never saw it. Didn’t care for slacker, so I have no keen interest to, either.
34. American Psycho (2000) saw it, loved it. Hilarious, although the serial killer stuff is by far the least interesting parts of the movie.
33. Punch-Drunk Love (2002) haven’t seen it – just never got around to it. Curious to see sandler do something that isn’t billy Madison (which I actually liked) part 6
32. A.I.: Artificial Intelligence (2001) saw it. Actually, I really like this movie. It definitely felt like a combination of spielburg and kubric to me – theres a bit of sense of wonder (spielburg) to the kid’s wanderings, but it ends cold and dark (sort of), which is very kubrekian
31. In The Mood For Love (2000) this is the sexiest movie I’ve ever seen. Leung and Cheung are fantastic.
30. WALL-E (2008) saw it, loved it. Most depressing cartoon evar.
29. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) another one I loved. Probably the best cinematography on fight scenes I’ve ever seen. And the soundtrack doesn’t hurt.
28. Morvern Callar (2002) never saw it.
27. What Time Is It There? (2001) again, never saw it.
26. The Incredibles (2004) I’ve seen *part* of it. Looked good, and I like Brad Bird…
25. Together (2000) never saw it.
24. Yi Yi (2000) never saw it.
23. The Man Who Wasn’t There (2001) one of a small handful of movies I actually turned off in the middle. It was just boring to me.
22. United 93 (2006) never saw it.
21. Zodiac (2007) I loved this. I really dig a lot of fincher stuff, so that’s not surprising, but I really dug the kind of fuck-you ending (which makes sense in this one – case never was solved, after all) similar to the wrestler.
20.The Squid and The Whale (2005) just watched this with the lady. Excellent, funny, very Anderson-esque, which makes sense now that I know more about Noah Bombech.
19. The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers (2002) YES!!
18. Mulholland Dr. (2001) man, I saw this a LONG time ago, but I remember really digging it. Some hot naked ladies helped.
17. The Royal Tenenbaums (2001) this is the one that taught me the dichotomy of anderson movies – if you watch them in a good mood, they have some great, dry comedy, and if you watch them a bit down, holy shit are they depressing. Again, soundtrack ups the impact.
16. Almost Famous (2000) I give this one a solid “meh.”
15. Y Tu Mamá También (2001) another very sexy movie. I really dug it.
14. Talk To Her (2002) never saw it.
13. Grizzly Man (2005) oh man, I don’t know about “great movie” but totes worth seeing. Just fucking surreal.
12. Before Sunset (2004) I keep reading references to this in other film reviews, so I should watch it eventually. Even tho I don’t care for ethan hawke.
11. Time Out (2001) never saw it.
10. Children Of Men (2006) saw…part of it. Need to finish it one of these days, it was good.
9. The New World (2005) never saw it and this is the first mention of it I’ve heard as a great movie…
8. Capturing The Friedmans (2003) never saw it. Sounds really interesting tho.
7. Kill Bill Vol. 1 (2003) the RZA is fucking awesome. I totes love this movie, tho it works best WITH vol 2, I think. It’s a great east meets west cult cinema set. “much badass mutherfuckery ensues” indeed.
6. Spirited Away (2001) I like this one lots too. I thought mononoke, while good, was still a little over-the-top with miyazaki’s environmental themes, and this one handles it a bit more subtly in addition to the great exploration of childhood and responsibility.
5. Memento (2000) I haven’t watched this in nigh-10 years, but I loved it when I saw it. Guy pierce is awesome.
4. No Country For Old Men (2007) another one with the ambiguious ending…loved it. Everyone in it is fantastic – especially Javier. Awesome!
3. There Will Be Blood (2007) never saw it, but I do like drinking milkshakes, so theres that.
2. 25th Hour (2002) never saw it.
1. Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind (2004) never saw it. Actively avoided due to Jim Carey, but I’ve heard only good things, so I’ll get around to it eventually.
It was a good interview. It wasn't the standard list of questions on a sheet that the recruiter has in front of them. There were two of them, and they asked me good questions about stuff on my resume, and I think I asked some pretty good questions about the position and the company in general. It was really more of a conversation between the three of us. I really like this kind of interview more than the straight up list of questions. Also, they didn't bring up GPA. That was really nice. I should hear back from them in a week or so. And while they asked if I were able to start in January, I think they are looking for somewhat later in the year. I did tell them I could start in January if needed, though. I wouldn't mind, but I have no idea what I would do to manage moving to Ohio in January.
Downside to everything? I got a fucking parking ticket. Way to go FSU cops; you all can die in a fire. Hate having to go onto campus, as the parking is terrible. There really isn't anywhere for me to park. However, since the interview cost me $20, maybe I will also get a job from it.
Need to send a thank you note tomorrow, once I get it written up.
I am so wrecked. But on the bright side, my nose is healing up nicely.

Well, Swapadvd.com finally delivers after 13 months of waiting for the Disgaea series to come up. They’ve long been out of print, are hard to find and the set can go for up to $100. So of course I snagged these. I’m a big fan of the Disagaea video games and all their spin-offs.
Although the anime is nowhere as good as the game, it does use the voice actors from the game, which is always a plus.
Here’s the first four episode in a nutshell. Laharl, the son of the Overlord of Hell wakes up after a two year nap with the help of an Angel-In-Training name Flonne (Pronounced Flan). She came from Celestia (Heaven) to kill the Overlord only to find Laharl by accident. Together they discover the Overlord died by choking to death and now all of the Netherworld is in disarray. Together they decide to figure out what has happened to The Netherworld and along the way they run into Etna, Laharl’s old sidekick (and secretly the reason Larharl slept for two years via poison) The Dark Adonis who gets nick-named “Mid-Boss” and finally Prinnies, the dead souls of humans who take on the form of bat winged penguins with peg legs who say the word “Dood” in every sentence.
The cartoons are…okay. The writing isn’t great, the video games tell the story better and they’re certainly not worth paying ebay prices for. Still, they use the same voice actors as the game and I can’t emphasize enough how important that is to me. It’s really only for NIS fans. For now, I’m on the cusp of keeping these due to the rarity and my love of the games. I can’t see anyone else really enjoying these though.
Is it Worth Keeping? On the fence

Anyone know why this is the case, and is there any workaround other than using MobileMe? Could I try using different port settings maybe?
(Apple Mail v4.2, IMAP retrieval, OSX 10.6.2 on a 2.5Ghz Macbook Pro)
Thanks in advance.
That having been said, I just moved this July to the Lyndale neighborhood, sort of uptown, but on the south edge. My apartment has no parking lot or anything. It's all street all the time. Not a problem on our street right now, but every street I've ever driven down in my area is a snow emergency route. This means that when they declare snow emergency I have no idea what to do with my car. On even/odd days I will maybe get lucky, but on that first night I'm at a loss of where to park.
Veterans of living in the Cities, what do you do with your car when you can't park it on the street due to snow emergency? I'm really confused as there are probably something like 20,000 cars that all of a sudden have nowhere to go other than the impound lot. Not really my first choice.
Your Shape Featuring Jenny McCarthy
Developer: ResponDesign
Publisher: Ubisoft
Genre: Exercise
Release Date: 11/23/2009
Once upon a time there was a game called Yourself Fitness for the Microsoft Xbox. This game featured a trainer named Maya who was programmed to show you how to do hundreds of exercises properly so that you could lose weight or tone your body in the comfort of your own home. This game was amazing and back in 2004 I was pimping this to everyone who would listen to me. Although the official website for the game is now down, you can still view the developer’s website and even pick up the game on Amazon for the 360, PS2 or PC. Sadly the game was underappreciated in its day and was lost to the sands of time. It’s too bad too, as it was easily one of the ten best games of 2004 in terms of innovation and creativity.
With the invention of the Wii, a funny thing happened. Because Wii Sports was a game that would force people to be active, people got the idea to make outright exercise games for the Wii. Unfortunately, 99% of those games have been complete crap. They have either given the ILLUSION of exercise or could even do more harm than good. Many of the exercises in snake oil flim-flam games like Wii Fit and EA Active will actually cause damage to your knees, ankles, joints and ligaments if you use them in the long run. You can read my reviews of both games by clicking on both names of the games and see just why you should avoid both of those big name titles that are little more than Nintendo and Electronic Arts grifting the average sedimentary gamer.
That’s not to say that there aren’t quality exercise options out there. Gold’s Gym Cardio Workout is the second best exercise game I’ve ever played after Yourself Fitness and it’s only $19.99. It’s seriously a must-buy for anyone who wants to get into shape or already is and wants a fun supplement. I use it regularly and it’s making my top ten games of 2009 list simply because it’s a budget title and does everything right. The second title is actually a Wii port of Yourself Fitness called My Fitness Coach and it’s just as great as ever. This game is also only $19.99 these days and Amazon has plenty in stock. Together My Fitness Coach and Gold’s Gym are the two exercise games people should have and you can buy both for 2/3rds of the price of EA Active or Wii Fit AND get actual proper instruction along with exercises that will actually do something in terms of caloric burn and muscle toning.
Now the latest exercise game has come out and it’s basically an upgrade of Yourself Fitness but with two big changes. The first is that the game doesn’t use any controllers for the exercises, but instead uses a USB camera. The second is Maya is gone and Jenny McCarthy of all people is your new instructor. Now, I have never thought of Jenny as anything but a third rate actress, bad MTV game show host and kind of unattractive playmate, so this inclusion of her as the spokesperson for the game gave me serious pause. On the other hand, it couldn’t be worse than say, the Jillian Michaels games and it uses the ResponDesign engine and exercise programs so it automatically had to be better than Wii Fit and EA Active, right? RIGHT?
Let’s take a look, shall we?

We thought and thought about what it could be. Upon research, several people complained that they couldn't use the remote network's VPN. Others complained that they were losing packets or that DNS would quit working after a couple of minutes.
Many things we Googled, noting returned an answer--that is, until tonight.
Determined to crack this nut, we tried every possible permutation of preferences to no avail. Finally, we Googled the phrase, "Snow Leopard no traffic over PPTP VPN" gave us this thread, which on first glance is just more of the same. But then there's this gem buried in the mire:
Once disabled, traffic started routing again.
I consulted with a co-worker why this might be. His idea was that in the transition from Leopard to Snow Leopard, Internet Sharing turned all connections to the Internet into clients, thus when Internet Sharing is turned on, it won't allow for a client to connect to the network connection and then on to a VPN. I'm not sure if this is the case or not, though it was suggested that I play with the
route command if I really wanted to see what was going on. I'll leave that to greater minds than mine. The point is, x-posted from

We are currently performing maintenance to our scrapbook database servers. During this time, some images may be inaccessible. We apologize for this inconvenience and hope to be done as soon as possible! |
Hey Everyone, we are about to run the last alter job that we need to on our database servers. This will effect userpics / scrapbook / vgift images for the next few hours. Have no fear, your images aren't lost, there is just a really intensive process running on the servers which store the information for mogilefs. Thank you for your understanding and all the LJ love...
Hey LJers,
I just wanted to let you all know that we are going to be performing some mogilefs maintenance over the next few days. We will be upgrading our current version to latest stable as well as changing some db config information to better handle the amount of files we are currently hosting. This shouldn't cause a big impact on site stability, but you may see some minor delays with userpic / scrapbook images appearing or other requests associated with our mogilefs. We would love to not have that happen, but unfortunately with some of the steps we need to take we have to cause a delay with images. I figured this was a better solution than taking down all of LiveJournal because well lets face it, we all need our daily LJ fix ;)
Thanks,
It’s funny, Edges of Darkness is a lot like Trick r Treat in that it’s a non-linear horror anthology. That’s the only real thing it has in common. Oh wait, this has some undead in it.
Like so many tired movies, video games and book these days, EoD is about an undead apocalypse and we get three non-connected stories about how people are dealing with it. the movie flips back and forth between the stories without rhyme or reason. The three stories are:
This isn’t a good movie. It’s a low budget indie piece and the players tyr to act as well as they can, but no one makes it past sub-par. There were some interesting ideas here, but they just didn’t have the writers, actors, or budget to pull it off.
